MDI Interface obsolete ?

Post by akkumar »

I was going thru the documetnation of MDI Interface - wxMDIParentFrame etc and came across this line -

"MDI remains popular despite dire warnings from Microsoft itself that MDI is an obsolete user interface style."

Pretty surprised to see this . If MDI is obsolete, what are the other interesting corresponding user interface styles that microsoft is talking about. Any idea ? Sorry if this is O.T, but asking this outta curiousity

Note really OT actually. Lots of people still use MDI in wxWidgets... so I guess its here to stay.

I think I've read that Microsoft is staying away from MDI because they have more confidence in the operating system to handle multiple open documents... such as how the taskbar groups programs, etc...
