TCP connection lifetime?

Post by liangbowen » Mon Jun 12, 2006 12:56 am

Is there a lifetime of a TCP connection?
Because I found that in my application, a connected TCP client cannot be connected by the server again after it has been idled for 50 minutes.

Is that means their connection is expired due to the long idle time?
Or there is not such thing of TCP connection expiration, it's just becuase something is wrong with my application?

In theory, there is no time limit to TCP connection.
But in practice, a tcp connection of 50 minutes, it is very very very long.
You may have been disconnected by the peer.
Do you really need a such long connection ? Is your connection is realy active all this time ?
Could you reconnect regullary when you need to send informations ?
