How to check version?

Why there isn't a simple way to check current installed version of WxPython?
It seems easy to allow a command like

WxPython.__version__

[doublemax]

I should note that this information should be posted on the main site...
it is not listed anywhere in the manuals nor in the frequently asked question section, even google didn't find the anwer.
