wxWidgets v2.6.0?

Post by krysa »

Hello, this topic isn't realy about development. It's about new version of wxWidgets (v2.6.0).

This monday (april 18) i visited wx project page at sf.net, and i found that the Latest relase there is 2.6.0. For two days, i've waited for the official announcements on wxwidgets.org or here in the forums... And i don't think there was any so far. Since there isn't any announcements - i assume it's not yet an official v2.6.0 release...

So. My question is - am i right? Or is it official v2.6.0 release? Is it recommended to upgrade from v2.5.5?

Thanks.
Platform: MSW (Windows XP Pro)
Compiler: msvc 13.10.3077 (Free Toolkit)

I've been watching the development mailing list. It's not quite soup yet. It's in that phase of the release process Microsoft does so badly - testing . That is there is a new release, its contents are known, but there are a few problems that MUST be fixed before turning it loose on the general public. Updating the 'latest' release message at this point might be considered premature by some, but does let people who need to plan ahead where things are headed. In other words, wait for the anouncement of 2.6.0 - it will be comming out REAL SOON NOW, but trying to use it right this second would only leave you frustrated.

 Precisly! All the above!!! Except you forgot years...

In this particular case hours but it could have been a week or more. The whole idea was that software developpment is a non-deterministic, even chaotic, process and any prediction is going to be a guess at best. The key points I tried to make was that they were testing the distribution as I posted.
