Ubuntu 11.04-12.04 Menu event

Hi all,
I am using wxWidgets 2.9.4.
When I run the sample in wxWidgets. (Toolbar and Event), I try in ubuntu 10.10, the menu item some is disable, however when move to 11.10 and 12.04, the menu bar is hide, just show in the top of desktop(similar like mac), this is the problem that all the item inside the menu(top of desktop) is enabled.
How can I get the event when I click on the menu?So can make some item is disabled.
