Do you have a typical platform dependent issue you're battling with ? Ask it here. Make sure you mention your platform, compiler, and wxWidgets version.

How mayture is wxX11 ?

Post by acsMike » Sat Nov 08, 2008 9:53 am

I'm currently using wxGTK on Linux. Just for fun, I thought I would try wxX11 as an alternative. How mature is that port right now?

Will I be able to run an wxX11 app directly under Gnome?

Thanks!

Hi Mike,

Well, it's certainly mature, but then so is an abacus. However it's little used, and gets little maintenance (let alone improvement). Missing features include tooltips and Drag'n'Drop. Its appearance is less than perfect, too: compare http://www.4pane.co.uk/images/suse/wxX11_SuSE.png and http://www.4pane.co.uk/images/ubuntu/4PaneUbuntu.png

But it does mostly work; so if you want to use wxWidgets on a device that's too small for gtk, it's worth a try.

Regards,

David
