Using Generic Controls

Do you have a question about makefiles, a compiler or IDE you are using and need to know how to set it up for wxWidgets or why it doesn't compile but other IDE's do ? Post your questions here.

Using Generic Controls

Post by scottb » Thu May 07, 2020 9:44 pm

I can't find any documentation about using generic controls.

Two classes of interest are globally in the wxWidgets library and locally in my code.
Locally it's fairly straight forward, include a different header, use a different class name.

But I use wxGlade to design dialogs that get loaded using the xrc class.
I don't want to change my design file or code, because often I only need
to use a Generic control on one of the three platforms.

I need to make a small change in the library, and re-compile all on one platform
so that all references, including in xrc, substitute the generic version.

I've done it before, several times over the last ten years, but past experience never
helps. I always have to search and search for hours before I can figure out what to
do.

It seems to be different with each control, which would be fine if it was documented.

Thanks for any pointers. (I really would like to read a complete document about this,
but the focus today is wxGenericStaticText)

Which control and which platform you are asking about?

Thank you.
