wxGtk question

Post by spectrum » Thu Jul 26, 2007 8:43 am

hi all,

i'm trying to understand: is it necessary that i use wxGtk, since gtk at the end is a Xlib wrapper, or i can use wxWidgets on linux, in a way that wxWidget directly use xlib, for a better performance ?

On my Debian distro seems i can compile only if i install the wxGtk librarty, otherwise i get errors like wxPoint or wxSize undefined.

Hi!
It depends on what you want to achieve.

wxGTK, as the name suggests, is a wrapper for GTK (1.2 or 2.0). You'll need to have GTK and the GTK headers installed to compile wxGTK.

There is another port, wxX11, which uses X11 directly.
OS: OpenSuSE, Ubuntu, Win XP Pro
wx: svn
Compiler: gcc 4.5.1, VC 2008, eVC 4

It is to be noted that while wxX11 does not require GTK it is less complete than wxGTK
