wxForum's 2nd Birthday!
Two years ago this day marks the original announcement of these forums being setup at their old home at solidsteel.nl:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib ... eral/17549
A little bit of history to commemorate this occasion since I'm not an admin or moderator so I can't pull up and post any stats other than those listed on the front page...
For those that weren't around at the time, this forum was not the first attempt at setting up wxWidgets community forums. Back on April 20th, 2004, a man by the name of Roey registered and setup phpBB forums on wxforum.org. There was some confusion with some comments made by wxWidgets developers that forums were not going to be useful. Those comments were made mostly in the respect of actual wxWidgets development communication being moved to the forums and not in the sense of being a useful communication tool for users, but that was enough cause for Roey to take down the forums shortly after putting them up. Once Roey was corrected as to the intentions of those comments, the forums went back up, but the confusion led to some very inactive forums for the next few months until Jorg put the effort together to start up these forums.

Hi Tierra,
Thank you svery much for your kind words, and yes it has been 2 years now! And getting 4200+ members in 2 years is definately not bad!
I can still remember the lengthy discussion I had with mailling list members why the forum was (or was not) a good idea. Some people simply could not be convinced, or feared that the forum would rip the user base into half.
Well I think we proved that we could exist next to the mailinglist (I wonder how much active subscribers the wx-users mailinglist has).
Anyway, we have come a long way. I could not have done it without the help of a lot of enthousiasts, people offered to moderate the board, and one guy in particular, upCASE who really made great changes to this forum, naming the awards system, rss, the necessary updates, fixes, the wx-cpp syntax highlighting, and what have you.
So, thank you everybody! Let's set the bar at 6000 members now, I am sure we can do it in the next year to come!

I decided a birthday gift was in order, so I made some new icons.

You should know where to put these Jorg (assuming you like them).

Great!
The second birthday passed and I didn't even notice it
Anyway: Great thing!
As Jorg said, 4200 members in only two years (not all of them active, ok) is really a good result and it shows that forum and mailing list can coexist. If Jorg wouldn't have been faster, I would have setup one anyway
Thanks to all who actively help moderating and answer questions. I'm very glad to see that we have a *pro* community with experienced people in it. In the (almost) two years that I'm a member of this forum I can only recall one issue you could call a "flame-war".
So, on to the next two years!
PS: trierra - the new logo and icons look great. I'll see if I find the time today to upload them.

Great isn't it we are at 4780 members already. I am going to record some stats for fun, check every day at noon the amount of new posts, and new members. Just to see how much it is used..

Hi and welcome!
Although we have many chinese people here, I don't think it would be a good idea to have a subsection for chinese posts. People from all parts would want the same and it would be hard to administer, as I believe most moderators don't speak chinese...
If you do setup your own forum, please let us know so that we can point people to it if needed.
I'm not positively sure that this is Chinese, but there was a forum here http://g.yi.org/. I don't know whether this is still active or not, maybe try for yourself.cool222 wrote:But I English isn't very good, I can't read this forum without a dictionary.
I come from China, who give a chinese wxWidgets Forum's URL to me, may be I should create it by myself.
