BACK IN BUSINESS!

Post by Jorg »

Everybody,

Please update your link to this new forum url. You might not have noticed it, but you have been redirected!

Sorry for the downtime, it appeared my previous hosting company told me we were generating too much load on the SQL server. Personally I think they could not handle the traffic (they are a rather new company).

So, Jason Sheets has been VERY kind to host this forum on his domain, and by the looks of it, the speed has increased by 300% too!

So, the new wxWidgets forum URL is now: http://forums.wxwidgets.org there has been NO loss in DB data, I managed to salvage the whole database.

Also as an official announcement, upCASE will be co-adminning the site and the domain, so if you have any questions you can also point them to him.

Now, I'm very glad to be back, and .....

HAPPY POSTING!

Hi,

nice to see the forum back.

Thanks to Jason Sheets for hosting,
and boo to the previous hoster for chickening out.

And btw, Jorg: You may want to change the URL in your signature to the new one

I have a question/comment regarding the address change and previous posts. Glad to see it back by the way. :D I noticed that a lot of people reference other forum posts in there own posts, so is there a way that we can modify these links to indicate the new forum address? These links don't work at the moment.

I don't know much about PHPBB, but I assume you could easily run a query in MySQL to replace "www.solidsteel.nl/users/wxwidgets" with "wxforum.shadonet.com" in all of the url links.

Thanks,

Scott

Good call, I never realised that. I will look at it this weekend. Maybe upCASE has an idea?

Hi!
Glad to see it all back again!

toxicBunny: Thanks for pointing that out. I'll see what I can do.
Jorg: We might have to do this for the scripts as well. I'm on it.

One other thing: The link to the forum on the wxWidgets site still points to the old location. (http://www.wxwidgets.org/develop2.htm)

Jorg: Could you mail them to update it?

I have a old link to C++ Development on solidsteel saved in my bookmark and that's not redirect, can you do a server redirect to the other pages also. That, should not be a big deal to redirect viewforum.php from there to here.

I have updated the links on wxWiki, yesterday.

There are still references to Jorg's personal stuff on solidsteel.

Could the wxforum.org domain perhaps be used instead reliably?

And I have LOTS of viewforum.php links bookmarked. Essentially a big list of threads to look through when looking for something to work on (problems that should be addressed at the library level really, and such stuff), all pointing at solidsteel. A redirect would be nice, but I can of course update them from my side too.

Hi All,

wxforum.org is listed as an alias in the VirtualHost directive so if wxforum.org were made to resolve to 69.57.130.149 it could be used reliably as the address.

I do not know anymore who provided the DNS link for wxforu, org. I will have to look it up .. I believe it was Robin Dunn .. I am not sure.

How long is that URL (wxforum.shadonet.com) gonna be valid ?
Is this more than a quick & dirty solution ?

wxforum.shadonet.com will be valid indefinitely, even if Jorg decided to move the site I'd update DNS to point to the new IP address.
