Forum outage planned sometime soon

Postby Jorg » Mon Mar 07, 2005 3:30 pm

Hi guys,

Due to the merge-mod not working, I found out that half of my forum permissions are not set right. Some files have as owner the admin and some have the wxwidgets user. I think this might be the problem we encounter with the merge mod not having permissions to write somewhere.

Now, in a normal linux env. I could use chown to change the permissions like they should, but I am no super user on that web account.

This means I need to remove all the files from the forum and upload them again under the proper account. I don't know when exactly this will be done (depends on my spare time schedule) but so you guys know it will happen somewhere this week.

Hey, the alternative is paying 70 euro for them to chown the files ;-)

This will also give me a possibility to think about a test forum which will be running next to the normal wxWidgets forum .. On this forum we can implement new cool stuff like mods and see if they really work before introducing them here. I am not sure if it will work if I simply copy it to a seperate dir, but we can figure that out. Maybe some other people will get that account + pwd so that I am not the only one applying new mods.

Just to inform you all ;-)

Ok, I removed ALL directories and wrote back everything under the user wxwidgets. Now we should have no problems anymore with the merge mod.

It was a real mess and I confess. I probably logged in as different users and that really messed up the group and directory rights.
