Another problem/request regarding RSS
Hi!
I have small request regarding content of RSS feed. Currently there is little but very annoying feature in <description> field of every post in the feed. Every new post has in description field like "Topic Replies: N" where N is a number of posts in thread. Now if I get feed for some group and there is thread with two posts, both of them have "Topic Replies: 2". Let's imagine next day there are two new posts in the same thread. Getting feed shows four new posts because previous two have now changed description. But their content is not changed so I would prefer if field "Topic Replies: 2" could be removed or changed to position in thread which doesn't change. Would that be possible? If yes, thanks in advance With current frequency of postings and available free time it is really hard to catch new posts through already readed.

Removing is surely possible.
Changing the fields is too, but currently I don't have proper acces to the net (using my notebook at the moment as our rooms get a new carpet and this may take a while). Then there's christmas at the door and time is running short
Maybe next year. I hope I don't forget it until then

Sadly this became vital problem with accessing wxforum for meupCASE wrote:Removing is surely possible.

Every new post in thread changes content of all previous posts - this way for recent thread about new wxNotebook control which is 48 posts long I have about 1176 items in rss reader
Also 'leio' twice and 'Jorg' once changed their signatures, and then all their posts got "new content".
So my beg is to not include signatuers (that would fulfil other issue when somebody asked about images in sigs) and to remove field with number of posts in thread included in every post of this thread. For now I'm able to browse 3/4 posts long threads and anyhing longer I have to skip

I understand how irritating it can be. if upCASE does not find the time, are you knowledgeable with php? I might send the rss.php to you and you can customize it some further. I think you are the one using it the most right now.

Thanks! I admit it is not comfortable for me to do request knowing this is mostly personal request because noone else could benefit due to lack of rss readers here. Yes, I do use php so I could take a look myself. Hopefully it's not 100.000 liner scriptJorg wrote:I understand how irritating it can be. if upCASE does not find the time, are you knowledgeable with php? In fact I regularily read 8 feeds, and am subscribed to many more than I read in periods.ABX wrote:I admit it is not comfortable for me to do request knowing this is mostly personal request because noone else could benefit due to lack of rss readers here.
Once I tried using the RSS feeds here, but didn't find forums to be suitable to be read through RSS. Perhaps the state of affairs in our RSS was worse back then.
As for editing of posts, can't they somehow appear as edited ones in my reader? I know that when someone edits a blog entry, I get it overwrite the old entry, and add an "edited" icon, if it was marked as read. Maybe my reader can figure it out by now with wxWidgets forum too, but maybe it needs some kind of ID stuff in the feed - no idea.
I use liferea btw.

BTW: The script isn't very complex. It's two PHP file, one for listing the available forums, the other for "generating" the RSS output. A template file is used for the actual output.

Actually I find it very nice once the reader is server side (ie. I can share the same reader account from home and company regardles OS or anything else). I'm quite happy with Google reader, press J - next post, press K - previous post, press V - view original post in wxForum website, press S - give a star to post for later reading, etc. etc. As I said the only problem was I had to do lots of J pressing to went through hundreds of reposted items due to single change in sig or number of replies. Hopefully my changes posted to upCase are correct.leio wrote:Once I tried using the RSS feeds here, but didn't find forums to be suitable to be read through RSS.
I don't know how to split awards, any suggestions ?

Use assist multiple times and accept on the one who helped the most
I use bloglines. I love it too, but I rather have a reader that I can use at home and work, and uses a shared account to sync my posts. There was a topic once on creating an RSS reader, it should not be too hard, but everybody lacks the time
Bloglines comes the closest to what I want, also has J, K, etc ..

Yes, cached it immediatelly. I see still label of "Topic Replies" but I think I removed it from tpl file. Could it be tpl file was not uploaded?upCASE wrote:Just uploaded your sources, try it outABX wrote:Hopefully my changes posted to upCase are correct.
