Annoying popups

Post by Jorg »

Hi everybody,

When I was visiting my parents I noticed with IE there are annoying popups with my site. It is caused by NedStat which is taken over by WebStat and now they simply changed the agreement. They added popup banners to the free version, which in the past they did not do.

How many people have problems with this?

I am thinking about removing the nedstat as I am kind of very irritated to say the least that they simply bought up the former company and attempt to get money this way.

Personally I have FireFox (as the majority I assume) and have not seen a popup yet.

As I'm using Firefox too, I didn't notice anything.
The company where I host my site provides webalizer, which does the apache log file analysis. Doesn't your provider have something like that?

Well it is more something that seems to be injected through the javascript code executed to get info from the visitors since the page they came from probably. I will remove this icon (it is the blue one) because my hosting service has an excellent tracking already, and that didn't work at my previous hosting company.

Simply remove it from the template overall_footer.php will work I think ;-)

I use mostly Firefox and sometimes IE, and I only see the popunders in IE. The only one I really object to is the ad for WinFixer (see my other thread).

Firefox knows the popunders are there, but I think by default displays a yellow bar saying they were blocked, and from there you can click on Options to allow the pops for this site or stop showing the yellow bar.

I'm glad it's just coming from the stats counter and not the web host :)
Thanks for planning on replacing this service with another.

Hi Jorg,
You can use PPhlogger from http://www.phpee.com/ . I'm having great sucess with it. Even though you have to install this tracker in your server, it is completely independent and all the logs are private.

Or, you could try BBClone (http://bbclone.de/). It's a GPL'd PHP script. Very nice stats counter for webpages.

Still getting them :(. The ones I'm getting are particularly obnoxious because they aren't actually pop-up/-under windows but pseudo-windows embedded in the page itself. Certainly there has to be a better third-party monitoring service or, even better, a local monitoring solution like those suggested above that would work.

Hi Eco.

Thanks for reminding me, I removed the nedstat from the site. I was on holiday, and I am a bit slow picking things up again ;-)
