Why is wxWidgets forum not hosted on the wxWidgets domain and on the Shadonet blog site?

It was started as an unofficial forum (even though it's now pretty much the official forums), and I don't think anyone has ever even put in a request to the devs to setup a forums.wxwidgets.org domain for it.

I'm positive that if Jorg/Jason wanted to switch these forums over to forums.wxwidgets.org, I can arrange to have the domain pointed to this server.

I just thought that it was a bit strange, that's all. Thanks for the info. 8)

I'd be happy to setup a domain alias for forums.* or any other domain name.

The forum wasn't originally hosted by me, the hosting company went down and I started hosting it. I setup a temporary wxforum.shadonet.com and it stuck.

In getting forums.wxwidgets.org to point to the same IP as wxforum.shadonet.com, I found that we did already get forum.wxwidgets.org (singular) setup as a CNAME.

I did get a forums.wxwidgets.org (plural, which is more common, and preferred) CNAME record setup as well.

Jason, if you need these changed to A records to get more permanent redirects in place, just let me know. I see that right now if I use the flash login, forum.wxwidgets.org gets redirected to wxforum.shadonet.com. If/when you have forums.wxwidgets.org setup right, I'll go ahead and update all the links on the official wxWidgets website.

I've added forums.wxwidgets.org so you can now get here from:

wxforum.shadonet.com
forum.wxwidgets.org
forums.wxwidgets.org

I believe the forum's setting will have to be updated to reference forums.wxwidgets.org otherwise it'll continue to redirect to wxforum.shadonet.com

Hi All,

Sorry for the late reply. My house has been a mess the last 4 days, like a tornado waded through it. They hooked up central heating which meant my PC's needed to be covered from the dust (and hid away from being stolen ;-) ) so I have a huge backlog of email and messages.

Thank you jason for making those aliases, we could ask if the official wx sites and wiki that link to the forum, would adapt to use http://forum.wxwidgets.org that if the forum needs to be moved once more (it's sitting happily here sofar) the links at least won't be broken.

And yes a little bit of history;
- Early 2004 I set up the wxWidgets forum, beat upCASE by a few weeks with the idea I guess so we decided to co-admin this forum
- With some help of enthousiasts from which a few of them are still frequent visitors and values contributors, it grew slow;y and steadily
- I noticed the wxForum exceeded bandwidth on my provider nearly every month (the curse of success)
- So Jason was so kind to host it for us, and that is where it has been for a long while now.

We will hit the 10.000 member milestone soon, which is not bad at all!

With regards,
- Jorgen

No need to ask, I already offered to take care of updating links on the official website, and I could do the same on the wiki. Updating the official site will only take a minute, the wiki might take longer.

There's still a forum setting redirecting logins to wxforum.shadonet.com instead of forums.wxwidgets.org though. Jason thinks this is a setting in the forum administration panel, and I'm thinking the same, but I don't have access to those settings, you do.

Thanks Tierra!

I'm curious when we will breach the 10.000 members limit. It should be somewhere in March I think
