Hi guys,

I have had a lot of emails where my wx components did go. I must admit they were scattered on the web, and most links I found with google were dead. So I decided to put together this little site, and call it my personal wastebucket.

I have played with Joomla a bit to get the desired result, I kept the standard template and changed the logo to represent my personal view on the content

Also, I have to announce that I am taking it a bit slower this year. I will drop into what is called 'maintenance mode'. Which means once in a while I will attempt to update my current components and projects, but bigger and more exhoustive functionality changes will probably have to wait. I will also be less present on the board, only answering some of the posts. The reason is simple. This last xmas I found out I nearly was burned out. I was suffering stress I did not yet encountered and I believe it is related on too much work at home while my work is already demanding enough, with an 8 hour a day programming job.

So I will be here, I will respond to emails but I will probably watch wxWidgets from the side line and hopefully find some time to extend my current components a bit, and use my site to inform everybody about progress.

On the site you will find all my components I created, both finished ones and nearly finished ones. I put some effort in putting the API documentation online so everybody can find it when it's needed.

I like the name as well It's not that I am thinking low of my own work, but since it is a collection of old 'junk' as well, why not name it like that ..

I guess this is a stage every developer has to face someday... I know that feeling myself and it's the exact reason why I'm normaly not online during evenings and weekends. You just need some time off.

I'd really like to start development on wxRapid again, or finish wxSkin finaly, but I fear that onces I started again working on it in my free time, I would suffer from a burn out like you describe it. Still, my plan for this year is to finish some of my stuff, but like you mentioned, I'll get going at a slower pace.

I suppose the dream of every developer would be to have someone who pays them for doing what they want. Too bad one can't find somebody like that

Indeed. What I am doing now is working in small (per day, or week) batches. Also informing people more regulary through my site on a more regular base also will leave the impression I am still around, just not working as hard as I used to. I will try to work on my old stuff some more, and make the releases smaller with one final release and a beta release to provide people the newer functionality sooner. I installed DocMan on my CMS and that will allow me and other registered members to upload files to share related to the content.

Yep. The problem sounds very familiar. I have so many ideas, and I came to realise that after I finished something for let's say 80-70% I lose interest and start something new. Then the old project is left behind and it takes a long time to get back to that again. I can do something for 200% but only for a limited time. Once I abandoned it, it is very hard to get back to it again.

And ofrcourse the more projects you have the more problems arise when others use it, giving you less time to work on the nice stuff so by spending more time on a limited set of projects, improves the quality and lowers problems. That is in theory how it should work

You should do what I do:
I take the wxWidgets projects to my work - I got to a level in the company I am working for that no one is asking me what I am doing (lucky for me), So I could develope what I want

That works as long as you do not have to produce deliverables. When I would be programming at work for my pleasure and nobody would see any output or deliverable coming from me, I am pretty useless to the company

So, yes sometimes I am tempted, these two days were really light work and I am waiting for my next big assignment, but I rather work on company stuff at work, e.g. finding out about automated testing tools or CMS'es we could use internally. Both also fun to do.
