Check it. wxMDIBook 0.1

wxMDIBook provides additional features to the wxMDIParentFrame, wxMDIChildFrame, wxDocMDIParentFrame and wxDocMDIChildFrame classes of wxWidgets.

* When a MDI child frame is maximized, the MDI is put into a fully functional notebook interface with icons . Effectivly this allows the user to choose whether to use the real MDI interface or the notebook interface as known from non-Windows systems.

* wxMDIBook can be set to use the notebook interface by default. This way, when a MDI child frame is created in an empty MDI space, it is maximized, hiding the MDI space and showing the notebook interface. This behaviour can be stopped by the user by unmaximizing the MDI.

* By polling whether the current active MDI child frame is maximized on parent frame destruction, the application can figure out whether the MDI or notebook interface was used and save this for the next program start, for example with wxConfig.

Hmm, there already is a thread about this and it's still clearly visible.
