xMule and wxWidgets 2.5.4, Bid request

Post by HopeSeekr » Thu Apr 07, 2005 7:46 pm

xMule (http://www.xmule.ws/) is a UNIX-based filesharing program derived from the eMule Win32-only client.

The problem is that wxWidgets (http://www.wxwidgets.org/) version 2.5.4 does not handle the sockets properly, as does the previous 2.4.2 release. The goal of this bid is for xMule to a) search for files, b) find file sources, c) download files, and d) give known file sources to connected clients in the manner done when linked against wxWidgets 2.4.2.

In the past (with 2.5.1), such socket issues were related to event-handling changes and were relatively easy to fix. It is my belief that a person knowledgeable in wx sockets could fix it in one or two hours, although I am not against bonuses should the work be, in fact, more difficult.

xMule is fairly complex, with over 100,000 lines of C++ code. I have been maintaining the project for over two years and will offer detailed support and advice as to the mechanics of xMule to whomever gets this bid. It's a fairly well organized project and the probable code in question is 5399 lines.

I prefer people with pre-existing experience with wxWidgets and I will have many, probably higher-paying jobs in the future, xMule-specific jobs in the *very* near future (Unicode support, win32 port, etc).

If you view this as too little re-imbursement for an other-wise probably simple problem, please let me know here why and how much it would be worth to you to fix it.
