Basic Text Drag and Drop Demo

Post by dsilvia » Fri Oct 06, 2006 7:45 pm

This is a demo (as opposed to a tutorial, which I usually write) of a DialogBlocks wxWidgets project building a practical demonstration tool of wxDropSource and wxTextDropTarget. The build tools are MinGW and Visual Studio with makefile.gcc, makefile.vc, and dragNdrop.sln and dragNdrop.vcproj. As it is quite a simple application, this web document is the only documentation. Aside from the comments generated by DialogBlocks.

The demo also has an auxiliary file in a parallel directory (../ForeignClass) named TextDnd.h. This file contains a macro for instantiating text drag and drop target classes, simplifying this task.

The application basically allows a developer to play with a text drag and drop implementation in wxWidgets and see how it works and some basic coding practices. It is purposely simplistic to aid in understanding the basics of drag and drop as implemented in wxWidgets. There is a more thorough, though greatly more involved, sample of drag and drop in the distribution samples directory. This demo is intended as an alternative for those who would like to get a quick jump start. It's focus is the more specific and possibly more prevalent drag and drop of text.

Project code, including makefiles and a brief xhtml intro are available at:
