A couple things

First, congratulations! Putting together an RSS Reader that quickly is impressive. I had to do this over a weekend a couple weeks ago and it wasn't an easy task. My main reasoning for writing one was because some guys at work are geeked about SharpReader and it's ability to sit in the system tray an...

Is anyone else getting the error ./MinGWStudio: symbol lookup error: ./MinGWStudio: undefined symbol: _gtk_accel_group_attach when trying to load up the 2.06 release on Linux? The 0.98 release still seems to load up fine on the same box. This is on Fedora Core 3 with gtk2 rpm "gtk2-2.4.14-3". If it ...

License question

Since MySQL is under the GPL (specifically in the mysql.h header file which gets included by wxMySQL), wxMySQL may not be able to be released under the wxWindows license.

It may be worth checking with a lawyer.

I started a Jabber client called RUThere ( http://ruthere.sourceforge.net/ ) but haven't gotten very far on it. The library that is uses to talk to Jabber is Iksemel ( http://freshmeat.net/projects/iksemel/ ). Unfortunately, it looks like the site that hosts Iksemel (jabberstudio.org) had a hacker b...

A couple more alternatives.

MinGW Studio is great! That being said, it might be worth considering looking at IDE's that are still actively developed. Two very promising IDE's under both Linux and Windows are Chinook, Code::Blocks, and DialogBlocks (mainly a GUI designer, but becoming more and more a full IDE). http://wiki.wxwi...

It might be worth checking out the FlameRobin project. It's a front end to Firebird written in wxWidgets and uses the IBPP library for the C++ wrapper. It might be worth posting a question on their mailing list ( http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum=flamerobin-devel ) to see their reas...

http://www.wxwidgets.org/docs.htm has many helpful links and here ( http://www.wxwidgets.org/manuals/2.5.3/wx_contents.html ) is the manual that was mentioned. The samples in the wxWidgets package do a great job of demonstrating functionality as well.

One page that I just noticed that might help enumerate some of the benefits of wxWidgets is located at http://www.tt-solutions.com/en/wxwindows/ Julian Smart's presentations on wxWidgets also demonstrate many aspects of the wxWidgets framework. If I adjust my LD_LIBRARY_FLAGS to include a local plugin library path for Chinook Developer Studio, can I avoid the need to install it to /opt/chinook (or wherever wants to install it)? Have you thought about the price yet? If it will help keep development going and support Chinook Developer Studio...

I don't think that there is really a "1 size fits all" answer to this one. One person may value cross-platform support while another may value the 3rd party support. That being said, here are my reasons for advocating wxWidgets: * You have the source code. If there is a problem, you have a way to fi...
