Re: wxComboBox and sharing a new lesson

Thanks doublemax, I've been thinking about a really dumb analogy to working with derived classes... Say you just built a pond in your back yard, and you would really like to have a duck swimming in it. You go and buy a duck, open the instructions, and all it tells you is how to make it quack. That's...

wxComboBox and sharing a new lesson

Hi, just wanted to post this to give something back, at least to relative newcomers like myself. Today I needed a drop down list, and wxComboBox looked like it would do. Unfortunately when looking up the help file, or with the code completion, nothing I tried would make the control act like I needed...

Re: wxWidgets and hidapi (for usb)

You are right: hidapi.lib 5.14KB, hidapi.dll 46KB I had hidapi.dll in my main widgets project folder. In the DevC++ IDE the program runs fine. I clicked on the hidapi.exe in the output mingw folder... error, can't find hidapi.dll . This made me laugh, and realize I'm not depressed anymore. Moved the...

Re: wxWidgets and hidapi (for usb)

Ok, thanks for that info. Somewhere along the line I realized the compiler was not set in release mode. I thought I had changed that, but maybe not everywhere it needed. I double checked again, and also made the change you suggested: In VS, go to project properties -> C/C++ -> Code generation -> Run...

Re: wxWidgets and hidapi (for usb)

Ok, I do not have MSVCR100D.dll in my computer. I was going to download it from Microsofthere, but I'll try your suggestion first, sounds much better if I can make it work. Thanks again.

Re: wxWidgets and hidapi (for usb)

Thanks Doublemax, you always come to the rescue. I made a mistake in the dll name, it's MSVCR100D.dll . I found several copies of the MSVCR100.dll on my computer, before realizing I was looking for the wrong thing :). I'm now going to search for the correct file, then try out your suggestions the be...

wxWidgets and hidapi (for usb)

Hello, I am trying to make a wxWidgets program that uses the hidapi usb library . It's been several days of struggle, and I have just reached the point where I don't get undefined symbol errors on compile. However the USB library, from the site above, came as a VC++ project. I built the project in V...

Adding a button to a blank form makes program crash on exit

Hello, I have wxWidgets version 7.4.2.569 . Just upgraded a few months ago, and I'm pretty sure that this is the first time I have tried to write a new program with it. The problem I'm having is this: adding a single button, to an empty frame, results in an executable that crashes when I close it. I...

Re: 7.4.2.569 Many "duplicate section" warnings when compili

Go to Tools->Compiler Options and click on the tab for "wxWidgets". You'll need to change it for wxWidgets 2.9.3 Unicode, Monolithic, static import library . You'll only need to do this once. Now for each of your old projects, go to: Project->Project Options. In the parameters tab, make sure that P...

Re: 7.4.2.569 Many "duplicate section" warnings when compili

Hi Alan, no solution yet. Have to admit that I almost gave up and started watching videos from "thenewbostonian" on QT. Something about wxWidgets though makes you want to stick with it. I'll keep looking for an earlier version of the "WxWidgets Mingw gcc" package. Not hoping for much even if I find ...

7.4.2.569 Many "duplicate section" warnings when compiling

Hello, I just upgraded wxDecC++ from 7.4.1.13 to 7.4.2.569. When I try to compile/link my old code, written with version 7.4.1.13 I get a long list of warnings like these: [Warning] duplicate section `.rdata$_ZTV20wxThreadHelperThread[vtable for wxThreadHelperThread]' has different size [Warning] du...

Re: How to use wxString::Prepend?

Thanks pb, and yes, I am also new to C++. If I could just continue with this a little further, I would really like to get it out of the way, if that's ok. I did mean that wxString had already been declared: wxString my_wxTstring; The confusing part is the dot between my_wxTstring and Prepend(wxT("."...

Re: How to use wxString::Prepend?

Thanks pb!

I guess I have a more basic question: how to interpret the help file
function descriptions. I just don't understand how these two are
equivalent:

wxString& wxString::Prepend(const wxString &str) <=> my_wxTstring.Prepend(wxT("."))

I am very new to wxWidgets.

How to use wxString::Prepend?

Hello, I've been going round in circles (also cussing a bit) and just can't figure out how this function works. I just have a number, and would like to prepend a decimal point: wxString returnString = wxT("123"); returnString = wxString::Prepend(returnString, wxT(".")); There's no 'coma' in the help...
