I have been able to put context menus in by implementing the wxEVT_AUINOTEBOOK_TAB_RIGHT_UP event and using the wxWindow::PopupMenu() method in the event handler.

I have also been looking around for the same thing. I saw this a while ago; a github repository for TerminalWx. It claims to be a fully VT100 compatible virtual terminal widget for wxWindows. I haven't used it myself; I cannot vouch for it but it looks to be a terminal emulator that can be embedded ...

StyledTextCtrl has a wxEVT_SCI_DWELLSTART event that will get called when a use hovers over a word.

An easier way would be to use wxAuiPaneInfo. When adding the wxAuiNotebook to the wxAuiManager, you can set the flag to false [wxAuiPaneInfo().DestroyOnClose(false)] so that when tabs are closed the window pointers are not deleted.
