Definitely an interesting topic. I think in the mid distance future there will be more apps written in C# (on Windows). The vista API will be managed itself! In the long run scripting will become more and more important. Nevertheless C++ will stay for apps needing every bit of control. And of course...

wxString::c_str() is corret.

Too make this clear the format string isn't requesting any type. Just plain void* addresses (even their number is irrelevant). Remember that. Format strings a very dangerous! But i use them too;).

yes, and i assume that the char* operator of wxString kicks in. No, never! This is not a bug but a shortcoming of the c or the format string technology. The compiler doesn't check any types in the format string (it could, but i do not know any compiler which does it) so there is no conversion to ch...

Uh, just as i thought. wxEvtHandler are not cabable of recieving events without (being connected to) a window.
Ok, thanks.

Hm, you are talking about connecting a wxEvtHandler. What does that mean?

That is clear. The code is too big to post here. But i suppose that no wxEvtHandler alone can recieve events, just in conjunction with a window (for the message queue?).

wxEvtHandler and asynchronous events

Hello, i wrote a class and derived it from wxEvtHandler. Compiling gives some stranges warnings about casting member function pointers and no event is delivered. When deviating from wxWindow everything is fine. Why is that? And what is the purpose of the wxEvtHandler?

Yes, but the continuous 16 Bit isn't enough. And i fear wxString just uses this for Windows. So it must at least be UTF16 but i do not think that

sizeof(wxChar) == 2 and Unicode

Hello, i have an unicode related question. Is the wxString class aware of of the fact that unicode requires more than 2 bytes? I do not think so, so why does the docu say, wxString can be used for unicode? Codepoints since 2001 do need at least 3 bytes (ok 4;) ). What do you think, have i overlooked...

Hello,

this is the old wxWidgets bug. Sometimes calling refresh does help. This bug on MSW is around three years now, but nobody has fixed it yet.

Review of wxGrid

Is there something planned? While trying to use wxGrid on WinXP (2.5.4) i encountered many problem, mostly drawing errors, which makes wxGrid looking bad sometimes. But when i started to set a cellEditor explicitly the crash was hefty. I don't know if this is possibly anyway (although the doc says s...

This is a wxGrid problem. At last the drawing is really bugged (working with cell editors too), you got no chance. You could try the SetMargins(-100,-100) trick. It works, but probably there will be some drawing errors when showing the editor of a cell to the left and to the buttom. wxGrid does show...

wxGrid and wxGridCellEditor

In order to filter the keyinput in the grid cell i tried to create and set wxGridCellEditors: wxGridCellTextEditor * editor = new wxGridCellTextEditor; editor->Create(this, wxID_ANY, GetValidator()); SetDefaultEditor(editor); (this is a valide wxGrid pointer(derived from wxGrid)) Before i've set a c...
