Application freeze while long operation takes place

I have an application that creates a 100+ meg database. It takes several minutes to complete the work. I was trying to create a log window to write the status of my work as I go along so I can see where I am in the process. If I don't touch anything, all works well, but in the background I want to b...

using audiere with windows to play mp3 clips

I figured out how to use audiere with Windows....(this is my solution, but you might find this useful as a starting point if you want to use this and you need to do something similar)... I get a whole bunch of warning messages about to do with having virtual functions but not having a virtual destru...

General question on terminating threads

I want to create a thread to perform general cleanup while my application is running. In short, my main application creates work files as it processes, and I would like to clean them up when they are no longer needed (I know this sounds like something I could handle in the main code but I have some ...

Can I include an obj file I created in Visual C++?

I am using wxWidgets via DialogBlocks using MinGW compiler. I needed a new class to handle playing mp3 content from memory. I found a code sample that was close to what I needed and made some modifications so it is almost exactly what I need, and was able to build it using Visual C++. So now I have ...

Re: Cannot highlight first word of sentence

I'm almost embarrassed to post this...I discovered my problem was a comparison of apples to oranges. The Sentence I was displaying contained punctuation whereas the words making up the sentence were retrieved from a dictionary. So the first word of every sentence was capitalized but the comparison t...

Cannot highlight first word of sentence

I have a text control with RICH_TEXT2 style enabled. In this control I want to write a sentence and within a loop highlight one word at a time...so for instance, write the sentence "One day at a time." to the text control, then on the first iteration of the loop highlight the word "One", then on the...

Re: Deleting memory buffer crashes program and other strange

Thank you doublemax. I thought I had to provide the buffer but turns out as you mentioned, only the pointer....I have it working now. I also figured out that my access problem had to do with the file not being released when I call wxMediaCtrl::Load method...well it hangs onto the file until you load...

Deleting memory buffer crashes program and other strangeness

I am trying to allocate a buffer for binary data, retrieve the binary data from an SQLite database, create a file to hold the data and write it to disk then close the file and delete the buffer. I am running into two different problems. 1) When I try to delete the buffer, the program crashes... and ...

Re: wxMediaCtrl Load - from memory instead of file

Thanks for the replies. I suspected I could not do what I wanted to do. I also searched for a class that implemented simple functionality of loading and playing a mp3 audio clip from a buffer so I could bypass wxMediaCtrl - but couldn't find anything that was simple...I don't really understand the t...

wxMediaCtrl Load - from memory instead of file

The load method of wxMediaCtrl takes a file name argument. I want to know if there is a way to somehow redirect this to memory. I am storing my mp3 files in a database. In order to play a clip, I would have to extract from the database and write to disk the individual clip, then call the wxMediaCtrl...

Re: problems returning wxString

I found a way around my problem, but not sure why my original code didn't work... I was trying to build a new string using SetChar originally, but switched to Append. Here is the routine and the offending statement is now commented out. Thank you for the responses I received. wxString EncryptDecrypt...

Re: problems returning wxString

I have checked from the called routine and there was a value in the wxString object before it returned to the calling routine. This sample code is not causing me a problem, I am just trying to simplify what my question is to ensure I am not doing anything obviously (to someone else) wrong. My actual...

problems returning wxString

I have had problems returning a value of wxString and am wondering if there are known problems doing this, or perhaps I am not doing it correctly....In general, sometimes the value is blank even though it was set in the called routine. The following simple example is what I am talking about. There a...
