wxThreads sample from the disc of wx book is INCORRECT (?)

THe thread.cpp example from the wx book is not correct, at least I think. I have added a stripped down version of the code. Focusing on the 'start thread' and 'stop thread' and '(application)exit' (menu) commands. The class of interest is the MyThread. When one in the menu starts a thread, such a My...

determine file size

Is anybody aware of a method that tells you the file size based upon a filename ?

Currently I see this procedure :
open the wxFile and use length method on it.

But I assume a better solution should be available that doesn't require the file to be opened ....

wxDir Traverser or GetFirst/Next

When traversing through a directory with either wxDirTraverser of with the GetFirst/GetNext combo, I have noticed that both methods will give the files in the same order. Nice, consistent. But I would like to specify the order, for example I want them to come back to in the order of age. Oldest file...

Socket Server : stops accepting connections

I have a server application, which allows client to connect on a certain port. Clients connect, ask a question, response is send back, clients disconnect. All this goes well, till at a given moment, An Accept fails. From that moment on even no events appear in the application anymore which normally ...

wxSockets crash

I have an application that runs both on windows and linux. Since I was having some problems with the wxsockets under linux, I created 2 demo applications that mimic some part of my full application. The first demo version is a simple dialog application which will go into an endless loop when you cli...

unicode build : wxString and std::wstring

In case you are using unicode builds of wx.
Is it safe to switch between std::wstring and wxString ?
The compiler seems to agree :

std::wstring StdString;
wxString WxString;

StdString = WxString;
WxString = StdString;

Have the application restart

Is there a quick way to have your application restarted. I have some *sort of* server application, but when the user changed it's configuration through a menu entry, the entire application should restart (will refactor so it can be done internally within the program [stopping threads, closing socket...

I am using wx 2.8.10. And I have read that post already several times. One of my issues is what the example describes as : // // If a wierd fluke happens and we get a null socket break out // if(!pSocket) return; But the most severe ting is at a given moment no more sockets connections can be made ..

wxSocketServer Accept issues

Has anyone run into issues with wxSocKetServer::Accept. In my application after a certain amount of time the following occurs. * occasionally the Accept fails (returns 0), the Accept is used in the event handler in case of wxSOCKET_CONNECTION_FLAG * and from a given moment even this failure no longe...

wxAboutBox/wxAboutDialogInfo

When using the ::wxAboutBox together with the wxAboutDialogInfo (for example : AddDeveloper/AddDocWriter/AddTranslator) one will get a nice about box dialog in linux [tabs for the 3 above mentioned info part]. However under windows this is straight ugly and horrible. Under widnowss you get some bad ...
