ok, so try it with the other free compilers and report what they say; vc will report a stack overflow very nicely

I saw your post on the mailing list I would suspect any call like DeleteAllItems(); as wxW often delays the deletion to idle time. Like other posters suggest, this may result in a race condition. You could also consider a possibility where the DeleteAllItems(); is being called too often and you get ...

1) build it on a reasonably old distro - I use Slackware 8
2) link it to wxWidgets statically
3) if you use png or tiff or ... graphics libs, use the builtin, and consider that security advisories have been issued for these

You may find checkinstall helpful for making tgz, rpm and debs
