Using event handler without a GUI?

I am trying to implement event based wxSockets into a program based on Irrlicht's message pump. Is there a possible way to utilize the event system without the GUI, possibly through wxThreads? If so, is there any recent or relevant documentation or examples on how to do so?

thank you for all your help and being patient with me thus far. I have narrowed it down to a syntax error with the query: query.Format("SELECT pass FROM players WHERE name = '%q'", name); when passed to CheckSyntax it returns false. Can yous ee anything possibly wrong with the code? As for what else...

I know for a fact it is hanging on the query itself, but I have no clue why it is doing so. I also cannot run in debug mode due to Python embedding, python24 does not come with a debug library, rendering debug compilation impossible without removal of the python scripting. So I have been going off t...

Now it just locks when it hits this code, no error reported or anything. int Database::CheckPlayerPassword(wxString name, wxString givenPass) { wxSQLite3ResultSet player; wxSQLite3StatementBuffer query; wxString dbPass; query.Format("SELECT pass FROM players WHERE name = '%q'", name); try { if (IsCo...

First-chance exception at 0x00539254 in Server.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000045 is what i now get using tan's suggestion clientSockets[id]->Destory(); is what brings up the error. Which makes me believe the number its converting to is wrong, because the sockets function...

Code: Select all

int openSlot = findOpenPlayerSlot();

int* clientData = new int(openSlot);
sock->SetClientData(clientData);
thats how its set, openslot is returned from a function
Shouldn't that be
int i = (int)vp;
?
that just returns cannot convert 'void*' to 'int'

It's still not returning the correct id from the socket. Code for display: bool isRemoved = removeSocket(sock); if (isRemoved) { int id= (int)*sock->GetClientData(); wxString sRemove = "Client succesfuly removed, clientID= "; sRemove += wxString::Format("%d", id); sRemove+="\n"; ((ServerFrame*)sFram...

Converting void* GetClientData to integer

I was wondering if there was any simple way to convert from void* to int. I have a map of sockets to players and the only way to find out what player is to find the set socket number. So far i have only been able to get an int* to convert successfully, but the map needs a regular int*. If anyone has...

DirectX not working correctly.

I found someone with a similar problem on GameDev and the proposed solution was to use EVT_IDLE, but it was never stated if it worked, and it did not work for me. Mainly the problem is drawing to the actual window. I am using a basic wxFrame and passing its HWND to my DirectX class, and going at it ...

Only standard Debug and release build on VC2005 .NET

I am trying to compile wxMSW with VC2005 .NET and I am having quite a bit of difficulty with most of the DLL, Unicode and Universal projects. Core and Base alone are running upwards of 400 errors when i batch build the complete project, which is a rather large amount of errors to post here, so befor...

interfacing wxSockets with data from Java's stream

I am making a program that is supposed to read from a stream from a java client, the tihng is, the java client does not send the length of the packet, it just reads until it finds and end_char (linebreak). Both of wxSocketBase's read functions require the size of the buffer, is there anyway to figur...
