Code sample?

Thanks, I'll try that. In case it also fails, does anybody have a code sample of two vertical sash windows, where the left one keeps it width and the second one expands when the window is resized?

(I know it's possible to set set the widget sizes manually, but there must an easier way.)

The optimal way to improve and stabilize wxWidgets would be to develop an IDE in wxWidgets and add support to make it a piece of cake to create new wxWidgets apps.
