Hi all,
I am looking into integrating twitter into this forum. For example, instead of writing a message to this forum, you can also post to the wxwidgets twitter channel. For example when you have updated your software, wxWidgets gets released, or you just have something cool to announce that other people subscribed to the wxwidgets tweets can also read. It broadens the span of people that get informed and it can be a fun way to post small updates.
Now for the technical stuff.. I need some help with;
a) Is there a way to send a tweet to twitter by http-post or some other mechanism that people who are a member here can send an update?
b) I was thinking myself, everyone who earned let's say 100+ wxAwards are alowed to twitter. This will motivate people to give awards and help, and also weed out all people that subscribe to this forum just to abuse the twitter channel.
What are the thoughts about this? and is it even technically possible? Ideally I would like to send an email to the twitter channel that will update it, but I am not sure what the possibilities are. There must be some way to automate twitter as SMS sending is also possible.
With regards
- Jorgen

Ok, so I guess nobody is really interested or doesn't know what twitter is about?
I found a service that can redirect email to a specific address to a twitter account. So that part is covered. I will try to get further with this somewhere in may, as I will have a week off to play with it.
It looks like a nice idea, as you can 'broadcast' your new announcements or interesting links, ideas or discoveries to a broader group of people who follow you on twitter.
People who follow you get updates on their twitter or phone or desktop, it is like a mix between RSS feed and instant messaging.

I think your idea sounds interesting as currently announcements (and such) don't really get that much attention. Unfortunately, I've never even used Twitter so I can't help with the implementation.

Hi vdell,
Well I think it is similar to mailing from the forum. So I might be able (hopefully with some backup help from upCASE if needed) to put something together that emails to the twitter channel wxwidgets. I will also give access to the main devs on the wxWidgets mailing list, so that they can broadcast their news too.
It's not only interesting for official releases, but also if people have something interesting to share like a piece of code, article or whatever.
It all falls or stands to people subscribing as followers to the tweets of the wxwidgets channel. I was lucky enough to register that name before it was taken
Within a week or so I will have some time off and it might be a nice project to work on.

I am too find twitter an interesting way to broaden the audience (followers). Just registered and started tweeting
But still not very much followers yet on wxwidgets
PS:
I try to tweet my upcoming 1.0 release at lollisoft. It learned printing
EDIT:
All could tweet their stuff and mention (@/#)wxwidgets, so you or other members could collect the most important topics in the wxwidgets channel (linking it back to the orginal tweet).
